John Calipari had been chasing it for 20 years, the great white whale of his profession, and finally harpooned it Monday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. His dress shirt was soaked with the sweat of the pursuit, his tie loose and crooked, hair tousled from jubilant players pawing at his head as he hoisted the trophy. Calipari’s University of Kentucky team had put on another show, beating Kansas 67-59 in the NCAA championship game, and he’d won his first national title.
