Cameron Mills was born Cameron Trevor Mills in Lexington, Kentucky, on December 10, 1975, to Terry and Lori Mills. He attended Dunbar High School, where he was a two-time All-State selection. He was also named the Kentucky Mr. Basketball in 1994.  He was the son of former Kentucky player Terry Mills who played part-time starter for Adolph Rupp from 1969-71.

Mills started for four years on the varsity team at Dunbar where he averaged 14.7 ppg as a senior.  He led the team in free throw percentage as a freshman, sophomore, and senior.  Mills scored 1,690 points in his career — second on the Dunbar list and sixth in Lexington high school history.  He led the Bulldogs to the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen championship game in both his junior and senior seasons.

Mills came to Kentucky as a highly touted recruit. He passed on offers from Louisville, Georgia, Alabama, and others to walk-on at Kentucky.  He was a 6-foot-3 guard who was known for his shooting ability.

Cameron Mills was a guard for the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team from 1994 to 1998. He was a member of the 1996 and 1998 national championship teams.

Mills was a key contributor to the 1996 national championship team. He averaged 4.3 points per game, and he was 47.4% from three-point range. He also hit a key three-pointer in the national championship game against Syracuse.  Mills, who played sparingly as a walk-on his first two years, was placed on scholarship as a junior, but was hampered by injuries through the first eight weeks of the season due to several ankle sprains and a severe concussion. But his return to the active list coincided with the season-ending knee injury to Derek Anderson. After making a statement with 12 points in UK’s first win at Arkansas during the regular season, Mills turned up his game during March Madness, reason No. 2 for the Wildcats’ runner-up finish in 1997. He scored a career-high 19 points against Montana on March 13, 1997.  The 6-3 guard averaged 11.8 points per game during NCAA Tournament play, shooting a sizzling 61.5 percent from the field, 63.0 percent from three-point land. Those numbers came on the heels of 12.0 points averaging per game in the SEC Tournament, shooting only 59.1 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from three-point land.  Mills set a new three-point accuracy record in the 1996-97 season, converting 53.2 percent of his shots (42-79).

Mills was a two-time All-SEC selection. He was also named to the SEC All-Tournament team in 1998.

After graduating from Kentucky, Mills played professional basketball in Europe for several years. He then returned to Kentucky and began working in the home health industry. He is currently the Vice President of Chief Culture Officer at LHC Group.

Mills is also a minister. He travels around the country sharing his testimony about how Jesus Christ has changed his life. He is also the author of the book “The Journey: From the Court to the Pulpit.”
