Senior Day
 |
 |
Senior Day at Kentucky has
become one of the most recognizable ceremonies in sport. Honoring its senior class,
the occasion is one of the most elaborate and moving programs of its kind. The
pregame ceremony begins with player introductions. Once they have all burst through
banners bearing their likeness, their families join them at center court. Then the
state song, My Old Kentucky Home, is sung as the crowd bids farewell to their seniors.
This year marks the first year since Eddie Sutton's departure that all seniors will
start on Senior Day. A 32-game Senior Day winning streak was snapped last season when South
Carolina upset UK, 72-66. Before the loss to St. Louis in 1964, UK hadn't lost its
final home game of the regular season in 28 years, dating back to a 32-31 win by
Vanderbilt at the end of Adolph Rupp's second season, 1931-32. |
