I was never much of a Billy Gillispie fan and certainly am not now and this is by no means an attempt to defend ANY of his actions as Kentucky basketball coach. When news came that he was offering scholarships to 8th graders I was embarassed…for myself, for him and for the university. But he certainly wasn't the first to do such a thing. I learned today that Tom Crean, head coach of Marquette at the time and now head coach at Indiana, offered current Duke player Jon Scheyer a scholarship when he was merely an eighth grader. Read article.
