Kentucky basketball will never dominate the SEC as it did during the Rupp era

However, we’re also far beyond the era where only one team from a conference could make the NCAAs.  If Calipari can keep bringing in the recruits and keep NCAA Compliance Investigators out of the picture, he won’t need to win 10 SEC titles in a row to keep his team a constant national contender.  The beginning of the Calipari era is one of 7 story lines to watch in 2009-2010.  Read article.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On March 16, 1985, in a win over UNLV, Kenny Walker scored 23 points and provided a key block in the final minutes as the Wildcats advanced to the West Regional final .

 

On March 16, 2002, Tayshaun Prince scored 41 points against Tulsa in the NCAA Tournament.

 

On March 16, 2003, after running the table in regular-season Southeastern Conference play, Kentucky defeats Mississippi State, 64-57, in the finals of the SEC Tournament to secure its 24th league tourney crown and complete a 19-0 season sweep of conference opponents. It marked the first time the feat had been accomplished in 51 seasons.
