UK Board of Trustees approves ‘Wildcat Coal Lodge’ name

In a quick vote Tuesday, the Univerity of Kentucky Board of Trustees voted to name a new basketball dorm “Wildcat Coal Lodge” with only two members voting no.  Students in the audience were not allowed to speak at the meeting.  After the vote, members of the audience began chanting, “Move forward, not backward.”  The board recessed due to the disruptions in the audience.  Read article.

Walter Cornett, of Glendale, Kentucky, is the owner and operator of Walter’s Wildcat World. He founded WildcatWorld.com in 1998 making it one of the oldest Kentucky basketball fan sites in operation today.

On December 9, 1964, Louie Dampier scored 37 points against Iowa State.

 

On December 9, 1978, after forcing overtime, the Cats were down 66-60 with 31 seconds to go. Back-to-back baskets by freshman Dwight Anderson cut the lead to two before he stole the inbounds pass and fed Kyle Macy for the tying jumper. Macy completed the comeback by adding a technical free throw when Kansas called a timeout it didn't have.
