From James Pennington of the Kentucky Kernel, “Since Eric Bledsoe was an elementary schooler playing ball with high school seniors, he said baskets haven’t come easy.  He had me fooled. It sure seemed easy Friday.  Often the shortest player on the court even since he’s moved up a few rungs from elementary school, Bledsoe doesn’t mind getting battered a bit. In fact, he said he enjoys the bumps a little bit. It makes him feel tough, tougher than the other players who can’t absorb the shots as well as he can.”  Read article.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 18, 1903, State College (Kentucky) records its first win, an 11-10 decision over Lexington YMCA. The Wildcats finished that first season with a 1-2 record.

 

On February 18, 1909, with a 28-23 win over Cincinnati, Kentucky clinched its first winning season in school history. Following a “Senior Day” loss to Central University, the Wildcats ended the year with a 5-4 record.

 

On February 18, 1950, Bill Spivey scored 40 points against Georgia Tech.
