John Wall arrived in Nashville with plenty of hype after being named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year earlier this week. Wall didn’t necessarily bring down the house at Bridgestone Arena in the first half of Kentucky’s 73-67 triumph over Alabama in the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

Wall scored just seven points in the Wildcats’ dreadful showing in the opening half that featured an 11-point deficit and provided more worries than expected for most of the Kentucky contingent that followed the team to Music City.

On December 5, 2009, freshman John Wall bounced back from a bout with dehydration and a queasy encounter with an IV drip to finish with 16 points -- including the clinching free throws with 4.3 seconds left -- seven assists, five rebounds and three steals to lift the Wildcats to a 68-66 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels.  This was the first signature win of Calipari's tenure and proved his rebuilding job was well ahead of schedule.
