College basketball system shortchanges fans and players


From Michael DiRocco of the Times-Union:  “If I was a fan today, I would feel cheated, abused and angry.  Five players decided to leave early for the Draft, including four freshmen: John Wall, Daniel Orton, and Eric Bledsoe. Gone after a season that fell far short of expectations.  I wouldn’t be angry at them, though. It’s the system that would get my ire. The four freshmen are simply following the rules. Kids have to play one year of college before leaving for the NBA.  It’s a joke.”
