John Wall has been keeping up with Team USA this summer, as the United States attempts to end a 16-year gold medal drought at the FIBA world championships, and he told me last month that he would love to “hopefully soon” represent his country in international competition. But the question that I pondered then and throughout this whole tournament in Istanbul is: How soon is soon?
