Terrence Jones highlights field in “Papa Johns Dunk of the Year” Finals

University of freshman Terrence Jones’ powerful dunk against South Carolina highlights a field of eight impressive dunks vying for the 2011 Papa John’s Dunk of the Year, announced today by sports television production and event marketing company Intersport.

The Papa John’s Dunk of the Year is wholly determined by fan voting on Facebook (www.facebook.com/dunksoftheyear) and will be announced on CBS, the network home of the Final Four, on Sunday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Jones’ dunk joins the following seven dunks in the 2011 Papa John’s Dunk of the Year Finals:

Jermaine Mallett, Missouri State
Travis Releford, Kansas

Papa John’s Dunks of the Year, a one-hour CBS special, will highlight all eight finalists, reveal the 2011 Papa John’s Dunk of the Year, and explore the greatest dunks and dunkers in college basketball.

Intersport is also the creator of the 23rd Annual College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships (ESPN2, March 31, 7-9 p.m. ET) and the inaugural National High School Slam Dunk 3-Point Championships (CBS, April 3, 4:30-6 p.m. ET) – both held in Houston, TX, the home of the 2011 Final Four.

On January 13, 2009, Jodie Meeks scored 54 points at Tennessee in a 90-72 victory for the most points in a single game by a Kentucky player. Meeks played 39 minutes and went 15-of-22 from the field, including 10-of-15 from behind the arc. He also didn't miss from the free-throw line, where he went 14-of-14.  He also hauled in eight rebounds and kicked out four assists.  The 54 points by Meeks was also the most points scored in an SEC game since Chris Jackson from LSU tallied 55 against Ole Miss in 1989.
