Future Cat Mike Gilchrist gets double-double, named Co-MVP in McDonald’s game

After three days of practice, the East and West finally met on national television. In front of an all-time McDonald’s All-American game crowd of 20,019, James McAdoo and Mike Gilchrist led the East to an 111-96 win over the West. The East drew first blood when Brad Beal scored the first five of his 17 points on a tough drive to the left and pretty three from the right wing. While Beal supplied perimeter punch, James McAdoo and Mike Gilchrist took care of just about everything else.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 14, 1938, Joe Hagan’s 48-foot shot with 12 seconds left lifts the Wildcats over Marquette, 35-33. Then-Kentucky governor A.B. “Happy” Chandler sprinted onto the playing court at the final buzzer and drove a nail into the floor to mark the spot from which “Hagan’s heave” was launched.

 

On February 14, 2009, Jodie Meeks scored 45 points at Arkansas.
