DeWayne Peevey, media relations for ProCamps, Inc., published a new release for the Dominican Republic exhibition game scheduled for August 15. In it you will notice there is no mention of “Kentucky” anywhere. The university has no, and can not have any affiliation with the event. You will also notice there is no mention of Joe B. Hall or Sam Bowie as coaches of the NBA squad.
The release: “ProCamps Worldwide along with presenting partners Urban Active and Orange Leaf have announced a men’s basketball exhibition game between Dominican Republic National Team and several NBA players to be played at Rupp Arena on Monday, Aug. 15. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET. Tickets for the event will become available Monday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. ET on ticketmaster.com or by calling the Rupp Arena box office at (859) 233-3535. Tickets range from $15 per seat for upper-level seating, to $35 per seat for lower-level seating, $100 per person for VIP seats.
John Calipari, who is entering his third season as the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, agreed in May to become the head coach of the Dominican Republic National Team, which begins play in late August in several tournaments, including the FIBA Americas Championship for Men/Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The Dominican Republic National Team will feature 12 players, scheduled to include current NBA stars Francisco Garcia (Sacramento Kings), Al Horford (Atlanta Hawks) and Charlie Villanueva (Detroit Pistons).
Their opponent will consist of eight NBA players that are scheduled to attend, including Eric Bledsoe (Los Angeles Clippers), Keith Bogans (Chicago Bulls), DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento Kings), Jodie Meeks (Philadelphia 76ers), Nazr Mohammed (Oklahoma City Thunder), Tayshaun Prince (Detroit Pistons), Rajon Rondo (Boston Celtics) and John Wall (Washington Wizards). Both rosters are subject to change.
