Team Records and Series Notes

 

• With the win, No. 2 Kentucky improves to 1-0, while Marist drops to 0-1.
• The meeting with Marist marked the first meeting between the two schools, with UK coach John Calipari owning a 2-0 career mark against the Red Foxes.
• The Wildcats own a 13-0 record all-time against teams from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
• UK returns to action with the State Farm Champions Classic in Madison Square Garden in New York. The Wildcats will face No. 13 Kansas on Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET, with the game telecast live on ESPN and broadcast live on the UK IMG Network (radio), with Tom Leach and Mike Pratt voicing the action.

 

First-Half Notes

 

• Kentucky used the starting lineup of Darius Miller, Doron Lamb, Anthony Davis, Marquis Teague and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Miller has now started a team-high 14 consecutive games dating back to the 2010-11 season.
• Davis’ put-back dunk opened the scoring on UK’s first possession with just 13 seconds elapsed in the game.
• Kidd-Gilchrist connected on the first free throw attempts of the season with 19:03 left in the period.
• Teague recorded his first career points with a driving layup with 17:26 left on the clock.
• Lamb sank the first 3-pointer for the Wildcats with 15:15 left in the half, extending UK’s streak to 788 consecutive games with a 3-pointer made. Vanderbilt and UNLV have hit a 3-pointer in every game since the 3-point rule was adopted, owning the longest streak in the nation.
• At the first media timeout, with 13:30 left in the half, Marist owned its first lead of the game 18-17. UK was led by five points from Lamb and four points each from Kidd-Gilchrist, Teague and Davis.
• Terrence Jones checked in after the timeout, marking the first sub of the game. By coming off the bench, Jones snapped his team-high 20-game consecutive starting streak dating back to last year.
• With 7:03 left in the period, UK owned a 32-26 lead at the media timeout. Kidd-Gilchrist led UK with nine points and three rebounds, while Davis and Teague each added eight points.
• With Jones’ dunk with 1:44 left in the half, UK took its largest lead of the night and its first of double digits, 45-34.
• With a 45-36 halftime lead, UK owned a 20-11 margin in rebounding, shooting 56-percent from the field. UK was led in the first period by Kidd-Gilchrist who tallied 11 points.

 

Second-Half Notes

 

• The Wildcats opened the second half with Davis, Jones, Teague, Lamb and Kidd-Gilchrist.
• Jones’ dunk with 18:35 left in the contest sparked a Marist timeout after it extended UK’s lead to 51-36.
• Kyle Wiltjer‘s jumper with 15:57 left in the game lifted UK to a 57-40 lead, marking its largest of the game.
• A Davis dunk with 13:27 left in the second half gave the Wildcats a 67-42 lead.
• Freshman Sam Malone scored the first four points of his career late in the second half.

• In its 109th season of basketball, Kentucky is the NCAA’s all-time wins leader with 2,053 wins.
• The Wildcats extended its home winning streak to 34 games, with head coach John Calipari leading UK to an 18-0 record in his first season and a 15-0 mark last year.
• The 34-game home-winning streak under Calipari is the most consecutive wins for a Kentucky coach, eclipsing the record previously held by Rick Pitino. UK is a perfect 34-0 under Calipari at Rupp Arena.
• UK owns a 460-60 all-time record in Rupp Arena and has won 119 of its last 142 home games.
• Kentucky is 90-19 all-time in season openers.
• UK is 93-16 all-time in home openers and has won eight of its last nine home openers.
• An emphatic dunk from Davis with 6:58 left in the game and the ensuing free throw completed a three-point play, giving UK a 91-50 lead.
• At the under four-minute timeout, UK owned a 98-57 lead.

Individual Notes

 

• Davis led UK with 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting, with 11 rebounds and three assists.
  • Davis is the third UK player to tally 20 points and 10 rebounds in his UK debut, joining Jones (2010) and Sam Bowie (1979).
  • This marks the third consecutive year under Calipari that a freshman has opened their UK career with at least 20 points.
  • His double-double marks the first double-double for a UK player since Jones recorded the trick against UCONN on April 2, 2011 in the 2010-11 NCAA Tournament.
  • The last UK player to record 20 points and 10 rebounds was Jones at Ole Miss on Feb. 1, 2011.
  • His five blocks in the game are the most for a UK player in their collegiate debut since Perry Stevenson swatted seven shots in his debut in 2006-07.
• Kidd-Gilchrist opened his UK career with 15 points and seven rebounds, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe, adding two blocks and two steals.
• Jones opened up the year with eight points and nine rebounds, dishing out two assists.

  • Teague added a game-best three steals in 27 minutes.
• In his UK debut, Wiltjer totaled 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting, grabbing four rebounds in just 19 minutes.
