Great defense can make an ugly game beautiful

People complained after the 2011 NCAA championship game that Butler and Connecticut had shot miserably, ignoring that each team’s defense had contributed enormously to the difficulty of converting field-goal attempts.  shot 29.8 percent and 32.3 percent in Saturday’s game at Rupp Arena, but since we’ve seen teams come in here before and light up the skies—North Carolina earlier this month, in fact—we can’t blame it on the shooting background.
