UConn’s Jim Calhoun would love to face Kentucky

Jim CalhounCoach isn't looking past Thursday's second-round opponent, No. 8 Iowa State, but he does realize that if the Huskies beat the Cyclones they'll meet the South's No. 1 seed — and the top seed in the tournament — . And he likes the thought of that.  During an appearance on WFAN Wednesday, Calhoun was asked about the possible get-together with the Wildcats.  “I don't know about John [Calipari], but I would like to play Kentucky…”

On This Day In UK Basketball History

On February 21, 1970, No. 2 Kentucky defeated LSU, 121-105.  Dan Issel scored 51 points, Mike Pratt 27 and Tom Parker 18 as UK outgunned LSU star “Pistol Pete” Maravich’s 64-point performance before 9,000 fans in the John Parker Memorial Coliseum.  This was the ultimate shootout between all-time SEC greats Maravich and Issel.
