Former Kentucky recruit Shabazz Muhammad being investigated for potential improper benefits

Incoming freshman is ineligible for the team’s preseason trip to China while the investigates potential improper benefits during his recruitment, Tracy Pierson of Scout.com reported Tuesday.  The Bruins leave for China on August 22 for three exhibition games.  CBSSports.com’s Jeff Goodman and reported in February that the  had contacted schools recruiting Muhammad to be aware of financial dealings that could compromise his amateur status. According to February’s report, the NCAA was exploring connections between Muhammad’s family and financial advisors Benjamin Lincoln and Ken Kavanagh.  Specifically, sources said Lincoln paid for two of Muhammad’s unofficial visits during his recruitment, while Kavanagh helped fund Muhammad’s AAU team, Dream Vision.
