While noting how Kentucky could use Willie Cauley-Stein against under-sized Auburn Saturday night, UK Coach John Calipari acknowledged that the 7-footer might miss the game. “He won’t practice (Friday),” Calipari told reporters Friday. Earlier in the afternoon, UK said that Cauley-Stein had undergone a “minor procedure” on his left knee Thursday.
UK did not say if Cauley-Stein would play at Auburn. Calipari said the injury dates back to junior high school. He called the injury “an old thing he never did anything about.” The UK coach made the procedure sound precautionary.
“If I err, I’m going to err on the side of the kid,” Calipari said. “Let’s just be safe.”
If Cauley-Stein does not play, other players must collectively fill the gap, Calipari said.
