In front of an exhilarated crowd that included former NBA center Shaquille O’Neal, Montverde pounded La Porte, Ind., La Lumiere 57-38 on Saturday night and won the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament title.
The Eagles (22-2) were led by Dakari Johnson with 15 points, and Devin Williams added 13 despite missing part of the second half with an injured left ankle. Florida commit Kasey Hill finished with 10 points and played stout defense against La Lumiere’s Jalen James, who was held to two points.
“We started off not playing good defense, and I thought the key to the game was Kasey Hill playing so well against their point guard,” Montverde coach Kevin Boyle said.
