After the lone veteran, the one they call Uncle Julius, rescued a dysfunctional offensive possession with a 3-pointer to beat the shot clock that put the University of Kentucky basketball team (seemingly) safely ahead by eight points with 3:47 left in regulation Saturday at Texas A&M, his less-grizzled teammates faltered.
Freshman Nerlens Noel, who had an otherwise dominant day with 19 points and 14 rebounds, missed two free throws with 3:31 left that would've stretched the margin to 10. Then sophomores Kyle Wiltjer and Ryan Harrow combined for six turnovers in the final 2:07 to bleed the lead all the way down to zero and force overtime in a game the Aggies never led.
“That's what young kids do,” coach John Calipari said.
