Three weeks ago, first place in the Southeastern Conference was all but unthinkable for the Kentucky Wildcats. Floating on the NCAA Tournament bubble with two early conference losses and four other nonconference defeats, competing for first place in the league seemed like a pipedream for a team more worried about winning a ballgame than capturing a championship.
While winning the league remains low on John Calipari's list of priorities – Coach Cal always says he is more focused on his team playing well in March than winning the conference – the opportunity is at hand for the Cats (17-6, 8-2 SEC) to move into a tie for first place with a victory over SEC-leading Florida (19-3, 9-1 SEC) on Tuesday night in Gainesville, Fla.
