At this point in the year, at the start of the postseason, John Calipari would love to tell you he has a gauge on his team and knows how it is going to come out Friday in the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
But that has not been the M.O. for the 2012-13 Wildcats.
Coaching a team that has been defined by its sometimes head-scratching inconsistency, Coach Cal doesn’t know what to expect Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET when the Cats face the Vanderbilt Commodores, who hung on by the skin of their teeth Thursday in a 75-72 victory over Arkansas.
“I have no idea,” Calipari said in a late-night media session after learning who Friday’s opponent was going to be. “This isn’t a team where I know, ‘OK, I don’t know how that other team’s gonna play, but I know how we’ll play.’ I have no idea, so hopefully we come out of the gate, we play well.”
