Less than a week after his Oklahoma State team lost to Oregon, Travis Ford was apparently helping his mentor prepare for the Ducks. According to a tweet from Jody Demling, publisher of a Louisville fan site, Ford attended the Cardinals’ practice Tuesday. Top-seeded Louisville faces 12 seed Oregon in a Sweet Sixteen matchup Friday in Indianapolis.
Ford played three seasons for Cards coach Rick Pitino at Kentucky in the early ’90s and was regional MVP on the Wildcats’ 1993 Final Four team. While coaching at Pitino’s alma mater, UMass, Ford beat his mentor’s Louisville squad in 2006. The coaches also met while Ford was at Eastern Kentucky.
“He knows the game through the eyes of a player,” Pitino said in a 2006 interview.
