Future Cat Karl Towns, Jr. hoping to spur World Team to second straight Nike Hoop Summit win

Since Karl Towns, Jr.’s (Dominican Republic) arrival two years ago at St. Joseph High School in New Jersey, the school has compiled a 56-7 record on the boys basketball court and captured its first and second New Jersey Non-Public A Championships. Towns is in this week for the 16th annual Hoop Summit, and he’s hoping to do something similar with the World Team in Saturday’s game — help the international squad to two straight wins.

The 2013 World Team features 11 elite, international prospects facing off against a USA team that features 10 of the top U.S. high school seniors. The World Team has just five days of preparation together before they meet the USA, but Towns said he is not worried.

“I think the team came together on the first practice,” Towns said. “We really played very well in the first practice and really brought intensity. I think the chemistry has already been there. Once we stepped on the court, the chemistry was there. Right now we just fine-tuning our plays, seeing everyone’s abilities and everyone’s strengths and trying to find out how to utilize each other.”
