DeMarcus Cousins might turn into the new face of U.S. basketball. But the new owner of the Sacramento Kings wants Cousins to become the face of U.S. basketball in India. Cousins has been invited by USA Basketball to its minicamp next month. USA Basketball fields the national teams for international competitions such as the Olympics. Meanwhile, the new majority owner of the Kings said in a press conference today he has no plans to trade Cousins. Instead, Vivek Ranadive said: “I’d like nothing better than a billion Indians to know who DeMarcus Cousins is.”
The press conference was to introduce Michael Malone as the successor to Keith Smart as the Kings’ coach. Malone will be Cousins’ third head coach when he starts his fourth season with the Kings, following Paul Westphal and Smart. Ranadive was a minority owner of the Golden States Warriors during Malone’s two seasons as an assistant with the team.
