John Wall's new max deal with the Washington Wizards comes with a new spotlight on the former University of Kentucky point guard.
Wall recognized his place as the Wizards' franchise player Thursday in announcing the five-year, $80 million contact. He'll donate $1 million of that to Washington, D.C.-area charities.
“And I want to donate my time along with the money,” said Wall, who intends to volunteer in the community where he's played since the Wizards drafted him No. 1 overall out of UK in 2010.
Wall hasn't identified the charities yet — his agent just finalized the deal Wednesday — but he has a while to figure it out.
Walter Cornett, of Glendale, Kentucky, is the owner and operator of Walter's Wildcat World. He founded WildcatWorld.com in 1998 making it one of the oldest Kentucky basketball fan sites in operation today.
