John Calipari ushers in ‘best ever’ freshman class tonight

Hall of Fame college basketball analyst likes to call the nation’s top freshmen “Diaper Dandies.” It’s a good thing, then, that coach makes $5.2 million a year, because all of those diapers get expensive.

Fresh off arguably the most disappointing season of his career, Calipari signed a class widely considered the greatest of all time: a whopping eight incoming freshmen, six of them McDonald’s All-Americans and two others who were finalists for Mr. Basketball in Kentucky.

“No doubt in my mind,” Vitale says, “this will be the best class ever assembled. Now, whether they blend and bond together like Kentucky’s 2012 team, only time will tell. I personally think they will. Last year was a blip. This is going to be a special team.”
