Ready or not, here it comes.
The regular season is just four days away, and it’s coming whether or not the Kentucky Wildcats are prepared for it.
“It’s on,” John Calipari said after his team closed out the exhibition season with a 95-72 victory over Division II Montevallo on Monday. “Whether we’re ready or not – and we’re not – the bus is taking us to the games and the plane, and we’ve got to play games. So we’re going to have to learn as we go.”
Learning on the go looks like it will be an early season storyline for the Wildcats during the 2013-14 season. That’s always been the case for John Calipari’s teams at Kentucky where youth is served on an annual basis, but following another ordinary performance from the nation’s top-ranked team, it’s clear that while this team has overwhelming talent, it’s still, to borrow a phrase from Coach Cal, “a ways away” from where it wants to be.
