Like most University of Kentucky fans, Aaron Harrison Sr. hated what the NCAA Tournament selection committee did to the Wildcats — but for a different reason than most. When No. 8 seed UK (24-10) and No. 9 seed Kansas State (20-12) open against each other tonight, it will pit his sons, guards Andrew and Aaron, against one of their oldest friends.
Wesley Iwundu, a freshman forward for the other Wildcats, calls Harrison Sr. “my basketball dad” and has been “like a brother” to the twins since the three Texas natives started playing AAU basketball together when they were 8 years old.
“How close are those three?” Harrison Sr. said. “They’ve talked during the year probably twice a week. Wesley could come to my house right now and walk in if no one was home. It’s not like they were on teams together; they grew up together.”
