On a team packed to the rafters with talent, it’s going to take leadership to guide that talent to wins, and maybe a national championship.

Fortunately for this Kentucky team, there are six guys who played in the national title game last year and know what it takes to get back there.

The veteran in that game was Alex Poythress, a player who has had his fair share of ups and downs while playing for the Wildcats. The Clarksville, Tenn. native’s freshman season ended in the first round of the NIT, while his sophomore season ended in the NCAA national championship game, short of title No. 9.

One of two juniors, Poythress is a rarity for the Cats, choosing to return to UK for a second time instead of entering the NBA Draft.
