Karl-Anthony Towns posted his second double-double of his UK career against Missouri on Tuesday night in the Cats’ 49-point win over the Tigers.

“I thought he fought like crazy and I thought it was the best game he’s played in weeks,” Coach Cal said. “And the reason is he sustained effort.”

The freshman posted 12 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks, an assist and a steal in 21 minutes of playing time. It’s almost hard to believe the forward’s two double-double’s have come roughly a month and a half apart from each other.

The New Jersey native has had several games where he was just a hair shy of posting a double-double. Against Montana State the freshman was one bucket away from having double-figures in points and rebounds. When UK played Eastern Kentucky, Towns, with his new no-nonsense attitude, nearly had another one, finishing just one rebound shy while racking up 19 points. In the KFC Yum! Center, the forward was once again one rebound away from a double-double. In the double-overtime game at Texas A&M, he was one rebound and one point away from a double-double.
