‘s Karl-Anthony Towns was tabbed the National Player of the Week after averaging 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in two victories last week for the undefeated Wildcats.

Towns led the Wildcats in scoring, rebounds, field-goal percentage (.571), free throws (10 of 10) and blocks (four) in victories at and at home against .

He began the week by earning his third career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 13 rebounds against Georgia. Towns connected on 6 of 11 shots and all three of his free-throw attempts. He also dished out three assists and had a game-high two blocks.

On the road at Florida, Towns poured in a career-high tying 19 points and added a game-high eight rebounds. He was 6 of 10 from the floor and a perfect 7 of 7 at the line. He dished out three more assists – one shy of matching a career high – while also swatting a game-high two shots.

NBC called Towns’ play this week as “the best basketball since he arrived in Lexington.”

The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday when they travel to LSU for a 7 p.m. ET tip at the Pete Maravich Center. The game will air live on ESPN.

On January 13, 2009, Jodie Meeks scored 54 points at Tennessee in a 90-72 victory for the most points in a single game by a Kentucky player. Meeks played 39 minutes and went 15-of-22 from the field, including 10-of-15 from behind the arc. He also didn't miss from the free-throw line, where he went 14-of-14.  He also hauled in eight rebounds and kicked out four assists.  The 54 points by Meeks was also the most points scored in an SEC game since Chris Jackson from LSU tallied 55 against Ole Miss in 1989.
