Walking into the JD Lewis Center in Raleigh is like coming home for Word of God Christian Academy alum and Washington Wizards starting point guard John Wall.
He spent enough time there after all—Wall could’ve set up a cot at midcourt.
“It’s the first place I ever played AAU basketball,” Wall said. “When I got my nicknames, all the nicknames I have. Having a bad attitude, but being a great basketball player at a young age.”
Before traveling to Las Vegas this weekend to participate in Team USA Basketball’s minicamp, Wall wanted to give back to the community that supported him before becoming an NBA All-Star.
“My main goal is not just to be put on this Earth to be a basketball player, but also to help other lives out in the community,” Wall said. “That’s a big key to me.”
