So much for Kentucky basketball entering its redemption season on a high note.
After an embarrassing 9-16 pandemic-altered season, John Calipari‘s No. 11-ranked Wildcats open the 2021-22 regular season Tuesday against No. 9 Duke at Madison Square Garden in the Champions Classic.
It would be difficult to find many in Big Blue Nation excited about Kentucky’s prospects in that game after watching the Wildcats struggle to an 80-71 win over Division II Miles College in their final preseason exhibition Friday.
“I know where we are right now, and how hard it will be going forward, not just Tuesday, after Tuesday,” Calipari said after the game. “Coming back here and having teams that are veteran teams that are good too. So, we’re going to have to play better.”
Putting too much stock in preseason exhibition games is a dangerous proposition.
