The 19th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats will continue to iron out some things on Tuesday night when Bellarmine comes to Rupp Arena to face the Cats (7 p.m. ET, SEC Network Plus). In Kentucky’s previous game, Antonio Reeves scored 20 points in Kentucky’s 96-56 victory against the North Florida Ospreys.
The Wildcats are 4-0 in home games. Kentucky ranks second in the SEC with 19.7 assists per game led by Sahvir Wheeler averaging 7.6.
Bellarmine certainly will not be phased by facing a nationally-ranked Kentucky team. The Knights are 2-5 on the season but have already faced road games at Duke and UCLA. One of Bellarmine’s victories came over crosstown rival Louisville, 67-66, on Nov. 9. The Knights have gone 1-5 away from home. Bellarmine ranks sixth in the ASUN giving up 69.3 points while holding opponents to 43.4% shooting.
Reeves averages 3.3 made 3-pointers per game for the Wildcats, scoring 14.3 points while shooting 46.5% from beyond the arc. Jacob Toppin is shooting 41.1% and averaging 12.8 points for Kentucky.
Peter Suder is scoring 11.0 points per game and averaging 3.9 rebounds for the Knights. Garrett Tipton is averaging 9.7 points and 2.0 rebounds for Bellarmine. For the 17th straight year, the Knights are coached by Scott Davenport, who won his 400th career game earlier this season. Kentucky fans may remember Davenport as the head coach at Louisville Ballard High School, where he won a state title in 1988 behind star guard Allan Houston.
