Jeffrey Kyle Sheppard was born September 29, 1974 in Marietta, Georgia.  Sheppard was Player of the Year in Georgia in 1993 at McIntosh High School in Peachtree City.  He averaged 28 points per game, 11 rebounds per game and 6 assists per game as a high school senior.  He scored 1,919 career points and holds the Fayette County (Georgia) records for scoring, rebounding, assists, three-point shooting and free-throw shooting.  When assigned to write a paper with the topic “If I could wear anyone’s shoes…” in the 6th grade, he wrote that he would like to be Larry Bird and play in the NBA, but he would first like to play in the Final Four for Kentucky.

The 6′ 3″ guard was named Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA Tournament in San Antonio in 1998. He played on two national championship teams at the University of Kentucky under Rick Pitino in 1996 and under Tubby Smith in 1998.
