Kentucky cruises 90-59 over South Carolina

Darius Miller scored a career-high 22 points and No. 22 Kentucky had little trouble in a 90-59 win over South Carolina on Saturday. Terrence Jones added 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (19-7, 7-5 SEC), who remain unbeaten at Rupp Arena under John Calipari. Kentucky scored the game’s first 14 points and led by as much as 36 to push its home winning streak to 32, the second-longest in school history.

Mike Gilchrist will help the Wildcats compete for a National Championship

Michael Gilchrist scored 28 points and pulled down nine rebounds in leading his top-ranked St. Patrick’s Celtics to a 73-61 victory over St. Thomas More (Conn.) before a packed house at The Primetime Shootout Sunday at Kean University. Gilchrist, who was playing in front of his future coach, Kentucky’s John Calipari, dominated the game on both ends of the floor as he has come so accustomed to doing.

Wildcats hold player only meeting following loss to Vanderbilt

From what I understand Josh Harrellson called a team meeting after Saturday’s loss to Vanderbilt. He sent text messages to everyone telling them to meet at Wildcat Lodge. Kentucky drops to 22 in AP poll and ESPN Coaches Poll

Kansas is the new No. 1 in The Associated Press’ college basketball poll. The Jayhawks moved up one spot Monday following Ohio State’s first defeat, a loss at Wisconsin. The Buckeyes had been No. 1 for four weeks, the last two as a unanimous choice. Kansas, ranked No. 1 for 15 weeks last season, received 22 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel. Ohio State received 14 first-place votes and was 13 points behind. Texas is third, although it has the most first-place votes with 23. Pittsburgh is fourth, voted No. 1 on six ballots.

Terrence Jones named SEC Freshman of the Week

The SEC named Kentucky forward Terrence Jones its Freshman of the Week for last week. Jones averaged a double-double last week with 17.5 points and 10.0 rebounds last week. He tied a season-high with four blocks against Tennessee. He scored a team-high 25 points at Vanderbilt and has scored in double-figures in four straight games and 16 of his last 17 games.
