John Wall wins Eastern Conference rookie of the month

John Wall finally ended the stranglehold that New York Knicks guard Landy Fields had on the Eastern Conference rookie of the month honors, as the No. 1 overall pick was awarded the honor on Tuesday for the month of January. Wall averaged 13.9 points and 10.5 assists, but more importantly, he played in every game, although he was admittedly pushing through pain in his left foot, both knees, and sports a deep gash inside his left thumb from a floor burn.

Cats Hold Off Georgia for 66-60 Win

Brandon Knight

Doron Lamb scored 19 points, including a pair of crucial baskets to halt a late Georgia rally, and No. 14 Kentucky held off the Bulldogs 66-60 on Saturday. The Wildcats (16-4, 4-2 Southeastern Conference) avenged a loss at Georgia three weeks ago by clamping down on the cold-shooting Bulldogs (14-6, 3-4) down the stretch. Darius Miller added 14…

Kentucky 2012 target Archie Goodwin receives offer from Kentucky

Archie Goodwin and Rod Strickland

After a 32-point performance tonight with John Calipari in attendance, junior Archie Goodwin (Sylvania Hills, Ark.) received a scholarship offer from Kentucky. Goodwin has been reported to love the ‘Cats and this should be one of his personal favorite offers. “I got the offer from Kentucky,” he told me via text. Kentucky is one of the top teams for Goodwin, along with Memphis, Missouri, and home-state Arkansas.

Jarrod Polson looked like he belonged out there

Jarrod Polson played three minutes in UK’s win against South Carolina. They weren’t scrub minutes at the end of the second half. They were first-half minutes. UK was leading by nine points when Polson entered with 9:44 to play. He stayed on the floor for 44 seconds. He checked in again at the 5:45 mark in the first half and played 2 minutes and 11 seconds. His playing time came after head coach John Calipari saw Polson playing harder, and better, than the rest of the reserves in 1-on-1 drills in practice.

Deandre Liggins the ‘main part’ of Cats first SEC road win

As vital as Devan Downey’s offense was in South Carolina’s 68-62 upset over the newly-anointed No. 1 Cats last year, DeAndre Liggins’ shut-down defense was just as important in keying the Cats’ 67-58 victory in UK’s first game in Colonial Life Arena since last year’s upset. The role of defensive stopper isn’t something new to Liggins (nor is it usually particularly popular among players) but his value in such a role can’t be understated on a youthful team that has had a tendency to take plays off during stretches of time.

With this kind of Darius Miller, this team can be very good

It was a big moment for Miller. And I’m not talking about his 18 points in the 67-58 win over South Carolina Saturday. I’m talking about the moment when, at around the 5-minute mark, Darius Miller screamed at his teammates for their lackadaisical play. “Get in line!” he hollered. Is this a new Darius we’re seeing? A leader? Someone who can be aggressive and be counted on? I think it is.
