Deandre Liggins eagerly accepts role as Cats’ lock-down defender
Before Kentucky games, an assistant trainer offers well-intended words of encouragement to DeAndre Liggins. “He always tells me to score 20 points,” Liggins said on Sunday. “I tell him, it’s not about that. If I score two points and we win, I’m happy because I know I did my job. He’s, like, ‘You’re right, ‘Dre.’ ” Being a defensive stopper does not mean rose petals at your feet and the sound of hosannas in your ears. Such recognition is reserved for basketball’s offensive stars.
Doron Lamb key to success of Kentucky basketball

In a recruiting class that showcases the High School National Player of the Year and a stud out of Oregon, Doron Lamb may be the best offensively. There was much speculation as to what John Calipari was going to do with his starting line-up at the start of the season. Was he going to go small but more skilled or was he going to take the height but less talent route? It is safe to say he made the right choice. Doron Lamb coming off the bench seems to have been just what the doctor ordered.
Kentucky basketball playing like a team now

Terrence Jones looked like a dominant player who might have to carry the University of Kentucky basketball team on his own. Brandon Knight looked like a dynamic scorer trying to find his way as a point guard. The Wildcats looked like a collection of talent without much chemistry. Those were the takeaways in November when the Cats first faced quality competition in the Maui Invitational.

Pitino: Failure to follow game plan killed the Cards

Louisville Coach Rick Pitino warned his team that the same open looks that had been available against Western Kentucky and Morgan State would not be there Friday against the length and athleticism of 11th-ranked Kentucky. He was proven right in Kentucky’s 78-63 win in the KFC Yum Center, but the coach said his team’s lack of execution was more of a factor. Thanks in large part to a second-half hot streak by Preston Knowles, U of L’s field goal (46.3) and three-point (40.0) percentages were respectable. But the Cardinals had to work…
Enes who? Harrellson stars as UK rolls
Throughout November and December, even as their young team was making impressive strides in a difficult nonconference schedule, Kentucky fans had a singular refrain: “Free Enes.” After Friday’s resounding win at Louisville, perhaps Big Blue Nation should adopt a new slogan for their arena signs, T-shirts and message board signatures: “Enes who?” As Kentucky waited for word in the inexorable NCAA eligibility case of highly rated Turkish prospect Enes Kanter, Josh Harrellson — Kentucky’s occasionally maligned would-be backup center — proved that maybe the Wildcats don’t need Enes after all.

Kentucky dominated the smaller Cardinals (11-2) in the lane behind the stellar play of Harrellson, who took advantage while Louisville focused on Terrence Jones.
