Charles Worthington was born Charles Bowie Worthington on March 19, 1910, in Peoria, Illinois, to Thomas Charles Worthington and Katharyn Elizabeth Winter Worthington. Worthington was a notable athlete who played basketball for the University of Kentucky in the early 1930s. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch, he played as a guard and was known for his versatility, also excelling in baseball and football during his college years.

Worthington attended University City High School in St. Louis, Missouri before joining the Kentucky Wildcats where he was a member of coach Adolph Rupp’s first team.

During his basketball career at Kentucky, Worthington played a total of 33 games over two seasons, from 1930 to 1932. In the 1930-31 season, he played 16 games and scored 16 points. The following season, 1931-32, he played 17 games and significantly improved his performance, scoring 53 points. His contributions helped the Wildcats achieve a commendable record during those years.

After his college career, Worthington served in the military during World War II, where he was a lieutenant in the Navy.

He passed away on September 12, 1976, in Houston, Texas.
