Obituary – Glen K. “Bud” Parker , Evansville (IN) Courier & Press (May 9, 2009)
Glen K. “Bud” Parker, 84, of Evansville, Ind., passed away at 2:15 p.m. on May 7, 2009, at the VNA Charlier Hospice Center.
A native of Spencer County, Ind., Glen was born on February 13, 1925, to Walter and Thelma (Barton) Parker. He graduated from Chrisney High School in 1943 and went to the University of Kentucky on a basketball scholarship. Bud served his country for 2 years in the Army Air Corps as a gunnery flight instructor on B-29s. He then received a degree in business from the University of Louisville.
Glen spent over 25 years with State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, retiring in July 1990 as the Regional Property Claims Coordinator. During this time he worked in Evansville and West Lafayette, Ind.
He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Rockport, Ind., and the Scottish Rite and Hadi Temple Shrine in Evansville, where he was a member of the Directors staff. Bud was also a member of the Swords of Bunker Hill in Evansville and the Order of Ha-Ya-Ka-Wa in Sacramento, Calif. Glen was a longtime member of St. John’s East, where he served as a trustee on the church council.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Dr. Clyde W. Parker.
Glen is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeanette (Freschly) Parker; a sister, Ruth Lehmkuhl and her husband, Charlie, of Evansville; sisters-in-law, Nina Lee Parker (Clyde) of Evansville, Lillian Freschly (Allen), Pearly Freschly (Otto Jr.) and Dorothy Freschly (Charles), all of Spencer County. He was a loving uncle to 7 nieces and nephews and numerous grandnieces, grandnephews and great-grandnieces and nephews. He is also survived by his many cousins who have been so very special to him throughout his life.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Hambidge and his staff, as well as the staff of Charlier Hospice for their loving care.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Townsend, with burial at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Rockport, Ind. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Alexander Newburgh Chapel.
