Louis Robertson was born Louis Monroe Roberts on March 19, 1921, in Madison County, Kentucky to the late George L. and Alma (Stewart) Robertson.  He played basketball for the University of Kentucky Wildcats in the early 1940s where he was coached by the legendary Adolph Rupp from 1940 to 1943. Standing at 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 165 pounds, he played as a forward.

During his time at Kentucky, Robertson, known as “Bud,” played a total of 2 games in the 1940-41 season. Although his playing time was limited, he was known for his dedication and hard work on the court.

After his college career, Robertson was called to active duty with the United States Army Air Force and trained as a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot with the 50th Fighter Group. He completed 91 missions in Europe, responsible for ground support and medium bomber (B-26) escort. Robertson’s journey reflects the perseverance and commitment of a student-athlete striving to make an impact both on and off the court.

When honorably discharged from the service, Bud returned to the University of Kentucky and completed a bachelor’s degree in physical education. After receiving a masters degree in education from Indiana University, Bud taught and coached at Scottsburg High School, and then worked as a Senior Field Sales Manager for Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company, retiring after 31 years.

His favorite pastime was playing golf and gathering with his buddies for a pint after the rounds.
