Robert Strohm was born John Robert Strohm on March 16, 1916, in Minnesota, to Erwin Long Strohm and Eva May Moore. At some point, the family moved to Kenilworth in Cook County, Illinois.

Strohm played both football and basketball at Kentucky.  He lettered in basketball on the frosh squad for the 1935-36 season and saw action in a single basketball game during the 1936-37 season.  Kentucky won the Southeastern Conference championship that season.  He was a member of The Triangle, an engineering social fraternity, and Lamp and Cross.  He was also a member of the Norwood Mining and Metallurgical Society.  He was president of his junior class.

He graduated from UK on June 2, 1939, with a bachelor of science degree in Metallurgical Engineering.  He returned to the Chicago area following graduation

Strohm passed away on September 5, 2002 at the age of 86, in Lantana, Florida.

On February 18, 1903, State College (Kentucky) records its first win, an 11-10 decision over Lexington YMCA. The Wildcats finished that first season with a 1-2 record.

 

On February 18, 1909, with a 28-23 win over Cincinnati, Kentucky clinched its first winning season in school history. Following a “Senior Day” loss to Central University, the Wildcats ended the year with a 5-4 record.

 

On February 18, 1950, Bill Spivey scored 40 points against Georgia Tech.
