Scott Courts was born Scott David Courts on December 28, 1958, to Howard and Jeanette Courts

Courts was a three-time Jefferson County Basketball League All-Star in Arvada, Colorado, a suburb of Denver.  He took ‘77 league honors in scoring (20.0), rebounding (13.6) and shooting percentage (63.0).  Courts was named All-Metro and All-State by the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News.  He was also named a McDonalds’s All-American.  Courts scored 1,054 career points in three years as a starter.

On April 13, 1977, Courts signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Kentucky. “I’m so happy,” Courts added. It has been a longtime dream of mine to sign with Kentucky.”

As a freshman, Courts saw limited action, playing in 13 of Kentucky’s 32 games.  He scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on the season.

On March 22, 1978, Courts’ father passed away just three days before the national semi-finals.  He flew home, returned the next day, then went home for his father’s funeral the day after the championship game with Duke.

On June 30, 1978, several newspapers reported that Courts would not be returning to Kentucky for his sophomore season.  Courts cited that the pressure of playing for Kentucky was simply too much.  He transferred to Regis College in Denver.
