From the “Kentucky Basketball: The Season Never Ends” Calendar: Unranked Kentucky ended its worst start in 16 years with a surprising 93-76 victory over sixth ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill. UK trailed 21-11 when Marquis Estill, Cliff Hawkins and Erik Daniels entered the game. The sophomore and two freshmen combined for 11 points in an 18-4 run that gave UK a four point lead with three minutes left in the first half. The Heels led 48-45 in the second half when the Cats went on a 20-4 run. Kentucky went up by as much as 23 before UNC’s Joe Forte eased the final margin with two late threes. Estill scored 19 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked 4 Carolina shots. Would-be Tar Heel Jason Parker, a one-time Carolina signee who ended up at UK, contributed six points for the Cats.
