Calipari says selfish play doomed Cats against UConn

It had been a long time since John Calipari took a beating as thorough as the one given to Kentucky by Connecticut Wednesday night in the finals of the Maui Invitational. Selfish play by a young team that has not learned how to handle adversity was the driving force behind the Cats 84-67 loss, according to the coach, who discussed the game during an audio tweet released Thursday.

On April 1, 1996, behind an NCAA title game record-tying seven three-pointers from Tony Delk, UK won its sixth national title. After two John Wallace free throws cut the UK lead to two, 64-62, the Wildcats responded with a Walter McCarty tip-in and a Derek Anderson three-pointer and Syracuse never threatened again.  Kentucky wins, 76-67.
