On this date in Kentucky basketball history in 1933…

1933 SEC Tournament ChampsKentucky won the first ever SEC tournament by beating Mississippi State 46-27 in the championship game on February 28, 1933. The 1933 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament took place on February 24-28, 1933 in Atlanta, Georgia at the Atlanta Athletic Club. It was the first SEC basketball tournament in history. 

Walter Cornett, of Glendale, Kentucky, is the owner and operator of Walter’s Wildcat World. He founded WildcatWorld.com in 1998 making it one of the oldest Kentucky basketball fan sites in operation today.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On February 14, 1938, Joe Hagan’s 48-foot shot with 12 seconds left lifts the Wildcats over Marquette, 35-33. Then-Kentucky governor A.B. “Happy” Chandler sprinted onto the playing court at the final buzzer and drove a nail into the floor to mark the spot from which “Hagan’s heave” was launched.

 

On February 14, 2009, Jodie Meeks scored 45 points at Arkansas.
