Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - photo by Pablo AlcalaEven in an age of college basketball when many freshmen are called upon to star from the moment they set foot on campus, Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist are rare.  Davis, with his UK single-season block record of 98, and Kidd-Gilchrist, with his nationally known defensive, energetic reputation, have established themselves as one of the top duos in the nation barely halfway through their first college seasons, but that’s not what makes the pair so special.

On This Day in UK Basketball History

On April 14, 2024, Mark Pope, a captain of the University of Kentucky’s 1996 National Championship team, is introduced as Kentucky’s new head basketball coach to a crowd of more than 15,000 fans inside of Rupp Arena. Pope replaces John Calipari, who left after 15 seasons at the helm of Kentucky basketball to become the head coach at Arkansas.
