While his former University of Kentucky teammate Nerlens Noel slid at the start of Thursday night's NBA draft, Wildcats shooting guard Archie Goodwin went higher than expected and snuck into the end of the first round. He was selected 29th overall, the penultimate pick of the round, by the Phoenix Suns.
Goodwin said in a telephone interview from his home in Little Rock, Ark., that the Suns were the only team he worked out for twice, and that they had clearly expressed their interest in him.
“I feel more comfortable there than any other team,” Goodwin said, “just knowing they really liked me.”
Goodwin's agent, Charles Briscoe, said the Suns had indicated that they were prepared to move up in the draft to select his client.
