Trailing 38-35 to a middling team, struggling to make shots and facing a loss that would have been devastating to his team’s NCAA Tournament seed, John Calipari said enough is enough and called a play in the huddle for his leading scorer, .

The play was just a simple post-up for Randle, who converted with a turnaround jumper, but it started a 15-4 run that got the Wildcats out of a three-point hole and led them to a 64-56 win at Auburn on Wednesday night.

“I was just tired of it,” Randle said. “I wanted to step up and make a play. I didn’t want to lose.”

No. 14/13 Kentucky (19-5, 9-2 Southeastern Conference) avoided the loss and collected its third straight win on the road. More importantly, stayed within two games of Florida heading into Saturday’s primetime matchup at Rupp Arena with the league-leading Gators.
